Foggy Beach, Damp Dog

Yesterday was off-and-on rainy, and as the rain eased off, the afternoon got foggy. The sight of a bored dog perched on the back of the sofa made us think it was time for a trip to the beach. So we up and went.

“Beach” is one of the words Coquina knows.

“Beach” is a good word to have in the vocabulary.

Say “beach”, and her ears perk up and she’s ready to hop up and go.

Rope scraps are frequent finds…

So attractive is a rope scrap that we hardly need a leash when it’s time to go home.

  1. What a great way to spend some time – and what a beautiful dog- will be visiting those beaches on island in July, will say hello if we happen to cross paths – I wouldn’t miss the dog, lol.

  2. What is so great about the beach, and why are dogs always so happy to be wet and filthy!? It makes no sense. It is always amazing to see how much wet sand sticks to one small terrier.

    • I think the short answer is “smells”. There’s an instinct in some dogs to roll in stinky stuff: manure, dead fish, or mud…I think that’s to help cover their own smell — for when they were hunting animals, long long ago. Coquina’s fur seems to self-clean. I can count on the fingers one hand the number of times we’ve actually had to hose her down.

      • Rhody not only likes to get stinky, but he likes to share it by snuggling with a kitty who does not go for it at all.
