We had been to the beach, dog and I.
The light was still strong but was soon to fade.
The sun was falling toward the horizon.
Shadows were lengthening.
When we got as far as we were going to go, we turned around.
And Coquina did a curious thing.
She ran toward my footprints.
She leapt, and buried her nose in the impression.
Then she moved on a little, and sniffed another footprint.
And leapt and sniffed again.
Sometimes it was leap, dig, and sniff.
For hundreds of feet, she did this, over and over again.
That was interesting.
I never saw a dog follow a scent quite that way before.
