Human Figures at the Jade Museum

Among the thousands of objects at the Jade Museum are human figures.

Let’s look at some of them, in more or less the order in which they were encountered.

Where did these eyes come from?

Inquiring anthropologists want to know.

Some of these figures are mysterious.


There’s something happening here and I don’t know what it is.

I have seen the next expression before.

But darned if I can remember where.


Boredom? Just not impressed?

From the safety of their display case, group of women watch the museumgoers.

Seated painted woman.

Next, two figures appear to be in conversation.


What are they saying? We have no idea. We don’t speak their language.

Is the hand to the forehead a universal gesture?

Perhaps he was impressed by this warrior with his trophy?


The happy warrior.

In a more domestic vein, there was a couple, coupling.


Would a proper museumologist call this a “conjugatory vessel”?

First comes love, then comes…
