The Skull’s Progress

I don’t know how many years ago that a person in the Upper MidWest gave Julie the spider monkey skull.

I haven’t forgotten, I just never asked.

Last year I drew the front of the skull.

Now I have drawn the side view.

Here is the start-to-finish, in intervals of an hour or two.

First comes the sketch.

Preliminary sketch, to get proportions right and to locate details. This is a good stage at which to make mistakes.

The drawing is then transferred to bristol board, using home-made graphite “carbon paper”.

Apply fixative.
