Nearing Summer’s End

I finally got to see a sunny Cuttyhunk dawn, thanks to a photograph sent me by R. L. Scott.

It’s August. The third week of August.

The harbors are full of rich people’s yachts.

Freight boats, fully laden, shuttle Vineyard Sound.

The season turns. Children have to return to school.

Tourists and summer visitors are going back to their homes Away.

Summer activity can make a body weary.

It’s not just us older people who cover heads.

Grandson. Gone to pot while shopping.

The summer of 2014 is winding down.

At an August dance, September gives August a final promenade.

But the water is still warm and a delight to swim in.

And a sunset beach can be a perfect place.

Just ask a soaring two-year old.
