Throughout southern climes, one can see the “air plant”, or tillandsia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tillandsia ) growing on all sorts of available surfaces. Utility wires often sport this plant, sometimes in astonishing profusion. I once saw a hummingbird nest, built near tillandsias, on some electric wires. Above a busy road intersection.
The individual below was growing on a roadside tree near the Goodwill Store on Sanibel.
Closer inspection revealed hundreds more tillandsia on this tree, in various stages of growth. Below you will find a Benjamin Buttonish series of photos, from older to younger. I’ll have no verbal comments after this, just enjoy the forms.
